Hello, we are in the month of October, and this month, you can begin soil sampling for analysis. You can also start planting by digging planting holes. Additionally, you can consider applications such as Bordeaux Mixture, lime or sulfur based on soil analysis results, and the application of animal manure.
Bordeaux Mixture: Bordeaux Mixture is an agricultural pesticide used against various diseases such as powdery mildew, bacterial blight, algae formation on trunks, leaf spots, anthracnose, and bacterial canker. It is available in ready-to-use form at pesticide retailers. Alternatively, you can prepare and use it yourself with copper sulfate and lime. When about three-quarters or all of the hazelnut tree leaves have fallen, you should apply Bordeaux Mixture at a 2% dose. It can also be applied at a 1% dose just before the flower buds wake up in spring.
KBordeaux Mixture should not be mixed with any other pesticide and should be applied on its own. It should be applied when the weather is favorable, without rain, to ensure that it reaches all parts of the branches. Lime and Sulfur: In our region, due to the high rainfall, there is a significant leaching of nutrients in the soil, which leads to a decrease in pH. pH is a parameter that indicates whether the soil is acidic or alkaline. For hazelnuts, the pH value should be around 6-6.5. In cases where the pH is low according to soil analysis results, liming is recommended, and in cases where it is high, sulfur application is advised. Lime deficiency in hazelnuts can lead to the inability to take up other nutrient elements, resulting in premature yellowing of leaves, drying of top shoots, and weakening of roots. Uninformed applications can disrupt the pH balance of the soil, so it is essential to follow soil analysis results when making these applications. Lime and sulfur applications can be done between October and December. When applying lime, like all fertilization practices, it should be spread evenly under the tree canopy without harming the roots.
Lime should not be mixed with other fertilizers and should be applied on its own. Animal Manure: Organic fertilizers such as animal manure, when added to the soil, improve soil fertility, nutrient retention, water-holding capacity, and cation exchange capacity, and enhance soil aeration. For animal manure to benefit the plant, it should be well-aged and composted. Fresh manure is not beneficial to plants and can lead to increased soil acidity, making it challenging to combat plant pests and diseases. Fresh animal manure can be mixed with phosphoric fertilizer and lime, covered, and left to mature for about 6 months before use. Depending on the amount determined by soil analysis results, this month, you can distribute and mix the specified quantity under the tree canopy and into the soil to achieve the desired yield. Please note that these agricultural practices are essential for hazelnut cultivation and should be performed with care and in accordance with local guidelines.
